That Thing You Did

Hi there,

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  We sure did.  I thought I would play the Unity Friday Friends with flair today.  This sweet little owl is from the KOM for November What Lies Within Us and the sentiment is from the KOM from July Beautiful- inside and out.  Do you belong to the KOM yet?  There are always lots of images and sentiments you can mix and match.  And fun to color as well.  This card is a thank you for a Christmas gift.  I colored it with Copics of course, sentiment is embossed.  Dp is an older collection from MME Stella and Rose.

Bottlebrush Christmas Trees

Hi there,

I'm back with another Christmas card creation.  I bought these Powerpoppy stamps and wanted to color them up and send out.  I made 3 different ones for 3 granddaughters in IL.  I hope they like them.  This one is called Bottlebrush Holiday and I wanted to do it in non-traditional colors.  Kind of retro in it's look.  Added a bit of gold with paper, ribbon and sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.  Embossed sentiment with gold as well.  Of course Colored with Copics.  Merry Christmas!

What's the Word For Christmas

Hello there,

Hope you all are ready for Christmas!  I think I am finally. It's time for some Inspiration from the team at Prickley Pear stamps.  Today I am once again featuring Word Christmas Tree.  I just love this stamp and I wanted to pair it with this beautiful paper from BoBunny called Altitude.  Very non-traditional colors too!  I just stamped and embossed the tree on one of the papers and then cut around it following the tree shape.  I used this weeks sketch from Splitcoast stampers the Wednesday challenge.  Added the scallop die cut in back and some twine and bling.  Really simple.  Please stop by the Prickley Pear blog and check out what the rest of the team has for you today!  Have a very Merry Christmas.

I think this Santa is so cute!  Colored it up with Copics and added that grounding technique that Colleen shared from Copic in the Classroom. Added a few Memory box dies, twine and liquid appliqué for his fur coat.  DP is Simple Stories Handmade Holiday.  Have a great Christmas!

Bring On The Mistletoe!

Hello there,

Welcome to a new week and some new Inspiration for Prickley Pear!  This week I used a Mistletoe image.  I stamped the Mistletoe with Versamark then embossed it with white embossing powder.  This makes staying within the lines really easy!!  So If you are new to water-coloring try embossing the image then coloring.  I cut this image into a small tag, added some ribbon and sentiment. Done.  Quick and easy.  Peerless watercolors used are: Arbutus pink, Blood Red, Olive Green and Ecru for the background. Today is the last day to get RED RUBBER stamps 30% off.  So go do some shopping HERE.  And be sure to stop by the BLOG to see what the design team has for you today!

Reindeer Kisses

Hi there,

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!  I did.  And I ate way too much!! But I enjoyed every bite.  I need to start working on getting my Christmas decorations up now.  Anyway it's time for some Prickley Pear inspiration from the team today and I had a stamp left that I've never shown from the new releases for Fall/Winter this cute little stamp called Winter Kisses.  Thought this DP from Doodlebug called North Pole would work well with the stamp.  I went though my Prickley Pear stamps and found 2 little snowflakes from a clear set called Four Seasons and embossed those in silver for snow, colored image with Copics and die cut a few little birds and hearts to add with it.  Sentiment is from the Snowflake Inserts clear set.  I'll link everything below. The ice hanging is a border punch which is really grass but it works upside down for ice. Used liquid applique for snow. Please stop by the Prickley Pear blog to see what the team has for you this week!

Northern Lights Tutorial

Hi Everyone,

Barb here with a fun tutorial using Copics and an Airbrush to create Northern lights in a starry sky.  I found some photos on-line to use.  Here is an example that I used.

Aurora-Chandalar

Here's what you'll need to get started!
Copic markers, airbrush, Express It Copic paper, craft mat.

Step 1:  Airbrush Y17 in 3 stripes across paper.  Leaving
the lower third white.

Step 2:  With V09 add 3 stripes right next to the yellow.

Step 3: With B29 spray all strips lightly to blend and
go heavier around the upper 3 edges creating a sky effect.

Step 4: Spray E23 to lower 3rd creating the ground.
Go back over with E18 around edges on lower 3rd to
create depth. This takes practice.  It took me a few tries
to get the look I wanted.

Step 5:  Now stamp your image.

Here's the finished card!

A close up of the image

I hope if you own a Copic airbrush you will give
this easy technique a try!  Happy Holidays!

I'm Thankful

Hi Everyone,

Are you ready for Thanksgiving??  I think I am.  Having a few friends over and cooking.  We always love leftovers at Thanksgiving.  This is the last card I made a few days ago for my sister.  She should have it by now.  I used Prickley Pear stamps on this one.  I love this huge sentiment!  I colored the flourished pumpkin with Copics and used that grounding technique again.  I am practicing it and I love the way it looks.  If you notice in the close up photo It's just a series of dots used larger around the bottom of image and the dots get smaller as you move away from the image.  You can find this grounding technique on Copic in the Craft room FB page with Colleen.  Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!   What are you thankful for!  For me it's my wonderful husband, family, friends and my health.

It's time for some Inspiration using Prickley Pear stamps and dies.  I thought I would make a Thanksgiving card because it is this week.  I love this Cornucopia, Wheat Stalk and sentiment.  It is a huge stamp as you can see.  It was really fun to color with all the detail of those fruits and veggies!  I tried a grounding technique that Colleen  shared in a video from Copic in the Craftroom on FB.  It worked out great! DP is from BoBunny Autumn Song and I colored the ribbon with distrss Ink. And added a few sequins and leaves.  Please stop by the Prickley Pear blog and check out what the team is up to today.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Flourished Polar Bear

Hello there,

It's Monday so that means it's time for some inspiration featuring Prickley Pear stamps and dies .  Today I chose to use Flourished Polar Bear, Snowflake Inserts, Mini Flourish die and Snowflake Pendant die.  I will link below.  I started by stamping then embossing bear with blue embossing powder.  Then I embossed white card stock with a snowflake embossing folder which add lots of texture, added snowflake tinsel embossing powder for a snowy background.  Brrrrr!  Added the Snowflake Pendant which I stamped sentiment on and added more snowflake tinsel around the edges.  Added mini flourishes, multiples of pearls, pearl flourish and turquoise dot sparklers.  The die cut across the top is Cheery Lynn.  I love this color combo as well.  Please stop by the Prickley Pear blog to see what the rest of the design team has for you today!

Eat Pie, Drink Wine

Happy Friday,

Today I'm playing over at Unity Friday Friends with Flair Friday challenge with some stamps that came in my KOM for October Love and Joy for the Holidays.  Have you signed up yet?  They are great kits to use every month!  I used 2 images from that kit and made a Thanksgiving card.  I stamped the images on watercolor paper then colored them with Nicholson's Peerless transparent watercolors found at  Two Hands Paperie.  Have you tried them?  They are such vibrant colors and soooo easy to use.  I didn't use a water brush, I bought a regular watercolor brush with a nice point on it as it gave me better control for smaller areas.  There is a gal on Unity's design team that has fabulous watercolor tutorials if you'd like to check her blog out here's the link The Storyteller .

Channel The Chef

Hello there,

I have been working on a few cards and wanted to try out some Copic techniques I learned last weekend at Jennifer Dove's Copic Boot Camp in Chandler AZ. It was so fun and I really learned a lot. So on this image from Stampingbella called Uptown Girl Channel The Chef I tried a new background using a water brush with colorless blender and markers. I like how it turned out.  Something different and looks like watercolor. I added some doodle rub ons from Christy Tomlinson, twine, a button and sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.  I cut up the sentiment because it was going to cover the image. It works! DP is Cosmo Cricket TV Dinner.  Of course colored with Copics.

Mr. Seymour Bones

Happy Halloween,

Well I just had to make one more Halloween card today.  I love Graphic45 paper so I used Steampunk Spells for this one.  I needed a boy card so this paper will work.  I love this image of Mr. Seymour Bones, don't you?  The sketch for this one is from this weeks sketch challenge for Wednesday over at Splitcoast stampers.  Are you a member?  Always tons of inspiration every week. The little gears are from Prickley Pear a die, border punch from MS Drippy Goo, some distress ink, ribbon and bling to finish it off.  It had to go out today so no coloring on this one but it will be late!

Happy a safe Halloween everyone!

Mummy

Hello there,

It's time for some Inspiration featuring Prickley Pear stamps.  Today I chose to use Mummy.  I wanted to do a black, white and orange color scheme for this one. I wanted him standing on the pumpkin, added an extra web on the side and matching sentiment with spiders.  Added a few sequins, the little spiders came with the sequins and fabric banners. The border is also Prickley Pear. Colored with Copics of course and added a little distress ink in black soot. My inspiration was this diagonal paper that looks chalkboard and of course Mummy! Please stop by the Prickley Pear blog and see what the rest of the design team has for you this week.

Bokeh Word Christmas Tree

Hi Everyone,

Barb here to share a technique with you today called Bokeh.  It's a Japanese term which means blur or haze and is used in photography.  Here is an example of what I mean:

Here's what you need to get started: craft sheet, different sizes of circle dies, I used Spellbinders
circles LG and I only used the 3 smallest ones plus 2 small punches 3/4 and 1/2 in. Clear plastic
to cut a stencil, cutting machine, inks in 3 to 5 shades of the same color family I used ColorBox pigmant inks, finger daubers to apply ink in circles and tape to mask.

The first step to cut your stencil with the dies and punches.
I chose to make 5 sizes.  Try to work in odd numbers. Keep the circles spread
apart when you cut them out as shown above.

Next, stamp tree with VersaFine ink and emboss
with silver embossing powder on white cardstock.

Now its time to start adding the circles.  Starting with the largest circle and your lightest
color tape down the image and the stencil and add 5 light blue circles using your finger
dauber to color in each circle and leave some white space. See below.

Here's how that first color should look. 5 circles.

Wipe stencil off between colors and start with the next smallest circle
in the next color.  Work colors lightest to darkest. Work Circles largest to smallest.
It should look like this example. 2nd color, 5 circles.

3rd color, 7 circles

4th color, 7 circles

With the smallest circle I stenciled some silver. Always
working in odd numbers. 5th color, 9 circles.

Lastly here is my finished card.  I decided to add some white ink dots
with a finger dauber to tone the darker colors a bit. Also you can take a
tissue when dry and go over your image to remove some ink if you like.  I did.
I love this technique!  I hope you will give it a try.
